Don Jesús M. Estrada O., a native of Caldas – Antioquia, was born in 1857. He belonged to one of the most honorable families in that region, which has gained fame for its dedication to work. At 19, he founded a blacksmith shop in his birthplace. In 1884, he had already elevated it to the category of foundry. In 1903, he became associated with his son Don Ernesto Estrada, who had traveled to the United States to study everything concerning this branch of industry.

The foundry produced Pelton wheels, pipes, cane grinding machines, pulpers, Californian mills, bearings, pulleys, splices, and machinery repair. Later, Mr. and Mrs. Estrada dedicated themselves, especially to manufacturing coffee pulpers, which enjoyed great fame throughout the Republic.

To talk about the countryside in Colombia is to speak about these two companies, both created in the 19th century (Ferrería de Amagá founded in 1865 in Amagá, Antioquia and Hijo de JM Estrada Ltda. 1876 in the municipality of Caldas, in Antioquia as well), the Ferrería was acquired by the Estrada family in 1927 and worked as independent companies until the moment of the merger on February 9, 1951, thus creating the company “Hijos de JM Estrada Ltda.

This company is proud to be the oldest manufacturer in Colombia of machines such as:

1- Californian mills: They gave rise to the Amaga Ironworks and were manufactured in 1865 to supply the vein mining of many mines, some legendary such as Zancudo, the largest productive establishment of the time in the country, owned by man. richest in Colombia Don Coloriano Amador. Original partner of the Ferrería.

2- “Ferrería Amagá” brand mills: they began to be built in Amagá in 1870 to make sugar cane the industry par excellence in Antioquia for more than a century and until the arrival of soft drinks and pasteurized milk the main drink of the Colombian people.

3- “Estrella” brand coffee pulpers: the origin of the coffee line dates to the small foundry created by Don Jesús María Estrada Ochoa in 1876 in the municipality of Caldas and later moved in 1903 to the current location next to the “Big” stream in La Estrella due to the need to have a sufficient fall of water to move the machine tools. JM Estrada is possibly the manufacturer that has made the most coffee pulpers in Colombia in its 131 years of uninterrupted production, finding centuries-old equipment still in operation in Hawaii, Latin America, and the Caribbean.

4- Pelton wheels designed by the first Colombian figure: General Pedro Nel Ospina, as manager of the Amaga Ironworks, mechanical engineer who graduated from Bearkley University in San Francisco, California, son of the president of the Republic and founder of the conservative party Mariano Ospina Rodríguez.

Note: Historians and economists agree that the general, along with Alfonso López Pumarejo, was the two most influential personalities in Colombia in the first half of the 20th century because he fought and won the Thousand Day War, created the Bank of the Republic, and was president of the Republic from 1922 to 1926.

By 1931, this company was the largest metalworking company in Colombia, as confirmed by the industrial supplement that appeared in the newspaper El Colombiano of Medellín on October 13, 1931.

JM ESTRADA SA has had many developments in the agro-industrial field throughout its history, among which the following can be highlighted:

· Desiccant: (including the term) inclined downward, then horizontal for mechanical removal of mucilage, starting from the pine nut peelers (first national manufacturer of mechanical demucilagers, helping to create the culture of demucilage essential for the environmental component and humanization through handwork). First location: 1989, Anserma, Caldas. Note: obsolete since the appearance of the vertical defroster, which took over the agitation system of this model.

· Ecological sieve: Ecological because it is self-fed dry for slime coffee with an endless on its axis. Before, the coffee came from the pulpers to the sieves with water. The first location was La Palma Farm, Fredonia, in 1989.

· Coffee collecting screw is classified in the sieve hopper to deliver it to the demucilaginator, gaining height. First location: 1997, La Valeria Farm, Andes
· Cherry pumping system with cherry classification, a water drainage screw for recirculation, and serial distribution of cherry to pulpers avoiding dry hoppers on pulpers has become the general use equipment for medium and large coffee growers around the world. First location: 2000. Kona, Hawaii.

· Traditional processing module with Ecoplus module of stainless-steel tanks, dry pulping, classification by dry self-feeding rotary screen, and dry fermentation. First location: 2003, San José farm, Sabaneta.

· The only ecological ascending vertical green separator in the world works dry. It delivers the greens at a height higher than the receipt—first location: 2004, Honduras.

· Automatic loading and unloading dryers for medium and large productions, exclusive development of pre-tensioned arms for leveling and unloading in layers, humanizing the workforce. First location: 2000 Kona, Hawaii.

· Mixed with time in the drying layer of 2 minutes at work and 15 minutes at rest, achieving drying homogeneities superior to the legendary Guardiola. Location: year 2007, Anserma Central.

· Heat exchangers with lower suction and an inverted U-shaped air path to be heated for better thermal efficiency and to avoid absorbing saturated air.
